Health Education and Improvement Wales 

IMPORTANT: On Monday 1st October, the Wales Deanery will join with the Wales Centre for Professional Pharmacy Education (WCPPE), and NHS Wales’ Workforce Education and Development Services (WEDS), to form Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) - a new special health authority that will sit alongside health boards and trusts as part of NHS Wales.

Update on Executive Team Appointments

  • Stephen Griffiths has been appointed to the Director of Nursing role. Many of you will already know Stephen through his Director of WEDS role, and he brings a wealth of experience on the education and workforce development agenda into the HEIW Board, as well as importantnetworks and relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
  • Prof Pushpinder Mangat has been appointed to the Medical Director role. Push is an anaesthetist and intensivist by background, and has a long experience in medical management and leadership roles. He is currently Deputy Medical Director in Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMU), where he has been heavily involved in appraisal and revalidation, workforce planning, education, and workforce modernisation. Push also has previous experience as Interim Medical Director for ABMU.
  • Danielle Neale has been appointed to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services role. Danielle has a varied experience in the NHS, the Ministry of Justice, and in consultancy work, including previous Director of Finance roles, as well as a breadth of experience in corporate services, planning, and performance. She has a keen interest in developing staff and teams.
  • Dafydd Bebb has been appointed as Board Secretary. Dafydd is relatively new to the NHS, working currently as a senior solicitor in NHS Shared Services, and has had previous experience as a company secretary in the private sector.

2017 All Wales Regional Quality Assurance Report

During late 2017 the Revalidation Support Unit (RSU) provided three Regional Quality Assurance (RQA) events; St Asaph (Optic Centre) 26th October 2017, Swansea (Moriston) 10th October 2017 and Cardiff (Cardiff Football Stadium) 24th November 2017.
